What are URL QR Codes?

A URL QR code stores a web address. Scanning it with a phone camera shows the link; one tap opens the page in the browser. It's the most common QR type — menus, posters, packaging — because it needs no app and works on any smartphone.

How to Create URL QR Codes

Prepare Your URL

Make sure your URL is complete and working. Include the protocol (https://) for best compatibility.

Good examples:

  • • https://www.example.com
  • • https://example.com/special-offer
  • • https://maps.google.com/place/venue

Avoid:

  • • www.example.com (missing protocol)
  • • example (incomplete URL)

Shorter URLs Scan Better

Every character in the URL adds modules to the QR code. A long link with tracking parameters produces a dense grid that's harder to scan from a distance, at an angle, or when printed small. Both codes below lead to a page; look at how much finer the right one is.

Before you print

  • • Open the URL in a private/incognito window: does it load without a login?
  • • Test on a phone: some pages work on desktop but break on mobile.
  • • Scan the printed size from arm's length, not just from your screen.
  • • Printed codes can't be edited. A short link's destination can be checked later via its stats page.

Trim the URL first

  • • Drop tracking parameters (utm_...) unless you actually read those reports.
  • • Link to the exact page, not the homepage with "click Products, then..."
  • • Or use the shortener here: you get a ~25-character link plus a scan counter for free.
